The Macintosh formatting utility included on this drive was corrupt, but Apple's own Disk Utility had no problem formatting the drive. If you need a drive for backup/archival storage, where speed is not relevant, this is a great drive. The amber LED is a pleasant change from the harsh blue LEDs that other external cases use, of late.One Trillion bytes of storage is what the manufacturers these days call a Terabyte.We old timers, however, consider a Terabyte to be 109951162776 bytes, so the drive really holds 931.3 gig (gibabytes to use the latest geek-speak) of data.If you don't need a speed demon, this drive is an excellent value.The drive comes with a 5-year warranty; another great asset. The Seagate FreeAgent external drive is an excellent hard drive. Unfortunately, the USB 2.0 interface is painfully slow for large data transfers. (The drive comes pre-formatted for Windows, so if you want to use it for Mac storage, you must reformat it before using it).It is a solid performer and very quiet.
Thank goodness for usb hubs. Zero problems and very fast. Had it for a couple months now. Formatted to NTFS. Need to buy anotehr one cuz i'm running out of space.
I already had an smaller Segate and i liked it, so i stayed with a seagate for my TB and its great.
Don't risk losing your data. It's no longer being detected by both my Windows Vista and Linux laptop. This 1TB hard drive however has gone dead. Do yourself a favor and buy something else. I have had this drive for about 6 months and backed up ALL of my personal data on it. I've had a FreeAgent 500GB before this when I was in Iraq and only had a couple problems with it not being read, it still works to this day. After some research online I found out it's extremely common for the drives to fail.
Usb connector is poorly made, so it will fall off and the drive will stop working.
